Requirements for the Diaconate:
the following requirements are for Permanent Deacons:
Min. Age: 21 years old
Education: A Bachelors Degree from a recognized and accredited school; completion of Catechism and Spiritual Formation, completion of all the requirements for the Licentiate in Sacred Theology via the Midwestern School of Divinity or a Master of Divinity (M.Div.) from an approved and recognized school.
Requirements:
- The applicant must be a communicant of a parish in communion with the African Episcopal Church and receive the approval and endorsement of his/her Rector or Parish Priest.
- Applicants are required to obtain the approval of his/her Diocesan Bishop.
- It is necessary that the applicant complete the Catechism and Spiritual Formation requirements of the African Episcopal Church
- Upon completion of the specified requirements, the applicant must receive the endorsement of the Vicar for Priests prior to ordination.
Requirements for the Priesthood:
the following requirements are for Transitional Deacons working towards pursuing Priesthood
Min. Age: 25 years old
Education: must meet the requirements as specified for Diaconal ordination including, Priestly Formation and all of the requirements for the Licentiate in Sacred Theology via the Midwestern School of Divinity or a Master of Divinity (M.Div.) from an approved and recognized school.
Requirements:
- The candidate must be a communicant of a parish in communion with the African Episcopal Church and receive the approval and endorsement of his/her Rector or Parish Priest.
- Candidates are required to obtain the approval of his/her Diocesan Bishop.
- It is necessary for all candidates complete the Catechism and Spiritual Formation requirements of the African Episcopal Church.
- Candidates for Priesthood are required to serve a minimum term of two years as a Transitional Deacon
- All candidates for ordination are obligated receive the endorsement of the Vicar for Priests prior to ordination.
